Market Access
Quarantine has long been an integral component of horticultural trade, as pest and disease can be spread through planting material or plant produce.
In order to manage and protect plant health within their jurisdictions government may restrict access to their markets for certain plants and/or plant materials.
In other circumstances government may permit access to their markets providing that plants undergo specific treatments or are produced in a particular manner.
In either case, growers must be aware of the plant health and quarantine requirements for accessing differing markets at intrastate, interstate and international levels.
For the nursery industry there is a market access tool available to nurseries and growing media supplies accredited as BioSecure HACCP businesses.
The following contains material and links relevant to market access issues for the nursery industry.
